Friday, January 17, 2003 This story is one reason why you should carry a good large-caliber handgun, or at least a can of pepper spray. If you can get killed by a pack of wild dogs in Chicago, then you're not safe anywhere. Handguns are used more than 2 million times a year to protect the owner, and in most cases a shot is never fired. But when a pack of dogs is threatening to pull you down, if you shoot the leader, the others will turn on him and you can get away. Remember, the police cannot protect you from two-legged or four-legged predators. And in most cases, they can't even cath them afterwards.
# Thursday, January 16, 2003 ( 11:36 PM ) Just What the World Needs - Another Blog! OK, so maybe you thought having a web site, an online store, a forum, a wife and kids, pets and a day job was enough for any one man. Well, not for Captain Dave. I created this weblog because sometimes my mind just overflows with stuff, and some of it is just too valuable to waste! (I just write it, it's up to you sort through it and find the nuggets.) So here it is, Captain Dave's Rants, my chance to tell you how I REALLY feel about democrats, liberals, socialists, gun grabbers, (someone tell me - is there any difference or did I just use four names to describe the same bunch of miscreants?) guns, government, politics, patriotism, survivalism, and just about anything else I dang well please. Some of you will remember that before Y2K we hosted a web diary, but that was when everyone thought a blog was just a marshy place where you might see swamp gas late at night. Jack wasn't the most prolific writer and then I had to convert everything to html the old fashioned way, so it was updated less frequently than I would have liked. But thanks to the good folks at Blogger.com, it's much simpler now. I type, press a button and it posts right here. Keep in mind that I do have a day job, and I'd like to keep it, so posts will mostly appear at night, unless something dramatic happens. I have a wife, and I'd like to keep her, too, so don't expect thousands of words per day. But I'll still try to point out important stuff about the world around us. Important news you might have missed and useful I information we can all use to be safe. For the purposes of this blog, I am expanding survival beyond surviving natural and man-made disaster. I am including political survival, judicial survival and, most importantly, survival of the American Way of life. I am including the survival of our rights and freedoms, without which you have to question is survival the answer, or would we be better off going down fighting? So stay tuned. Hopefully this roller coaster will be going on a good long time. # ( 11:01 PM ) Quote of the Week "The state that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards, and its fighting by fools."# ( 9:10 PM ) Lieberman for President? HAHAHAHA I heard presidential wannabe Joseph Lieberman being interviewed this evening on NPR's Fresh Air while I was out driving -- about the only time I listen to the radio -- and he must have said "um," "ah," and "er" about a dozen times while answering a single question. OK, so the topic was how being Jewish affected his beliefs about abortion, and he probably had visions of his newly-minted campaign going down in flames if he said the wrong thing, but that's an excuse for someone who is running for the school board, not president! I think the least we should demand of candidates is that they can express their thoughts clearly and cogently. I can just see how he would be without his handlers and prepared speeches: "If elected, I will, er, ah, try to, um, er, reallocated as much, uh, wealth as we, ah, can from the, um, wealthy to help the, er, ah, needy and undepriveledged." And they said Bush was stupid. At least he could get a sentence out in less than a minute. Maybe Gore picked Lieberman because he made Gore look smart? # |
